In the United States, "the Sixties", as they are known in popular culture, is a term used by historians, journalists, and other objective academics; in some cases nostalgically to describe the counterculture and social revolution near the end of the decade; and pejoratively to describe the era as one of irresponsible excess and flamboyance.
The decade was also labeled the Swinging Sixties because of the fall or relaxation of some social taboos especially relating to sexism and racism that occurred during this time. Beatles were the emblematic group of the 60ties.

Τη δεκαετία του ’70 φρέσκιες ιδέες εντάσσονται στη μουσική . Τα γκρούπ άρχισαν να σκληραίνουν τον ήχο και να πειραματίζονται περισσότερο . Ξεκίνησε το Hard rock και το Glam rock . Στα μέσα της δεκαετίας εμφανίστηκε η Punk μουσική. Αυτή η μουσική ήταν τρόπος ζωής για πολλούς νέους που αντιμετώπιζαν έντονα προβλήματα , όπως η ανεργία , η οικονομική κρίση , ο αστικός καθωσπρεπισμός , η κοινωνική υποκρισία , το καταπιεστικό εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα.

The "end" of the 1960s actually extends into the early years of the 1970s with, according to many, the rise of "disco" music, (Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor) which became one of the biggest genres of the decade, especially in the mid to late 1970s. Rock music played an important part in the Western musical scene, with punk rock thriving throughout the mid to late 1970s. Other sub-genres of rock, particularly glam, hard rock, progressive, art rock, and heavy metal achieved various amounts of success.
